Gregory -

First find out what the version compatibility is with the software on the current box, and how much each vendor is going to charge you to license it on another machine.

You may find that they're going to want money for simply moving their applications from one machine to another, particularly if you're going from an older version of the operating system to an newer version, or particularly if changing processor groups.

For example, when moving from V4R4 to V5R1, there were several applications changes necessary in our JDE World Software system that required us to get PTF's from JDE and install on our system...had we not been on JDE support, we would have been stuck on V4R4 - or would have had to pay them BIG bucks to get back on support to get them!

Regards,
Steve

Subject: Tactical question?

A client has purchased a small company that has been operating on a 720. As
part of the purchase the acquired company must be off of the current machine soon and eventually move onto the clients box (up to a year in the future).
I have made several recommendations regarding question the client should
present to potential hardware solution providers.

What questions would you ask if trying to decide on a solution (licencing,
machine size, restoration of applications to new box, etc)?
