Jerry, are you seeing a lot of "at" symbols? @? Then it is in EBCDIC. It is possible to have NetServer translate stuff automagically, based on file extension. This is done in the file share properties in the NetServer config. Open up iSeries Navigator, click on the "+" next to your system, click ont he "+" next to "File systems". Then click on "File shares". In the detail panel you will see a list of the file shares. Right-click one and take the Properties option. In there is a tab that says "Text conversion" This is where you can tell it which extensions to convert to ASCII autmatically.

Or there are ways on the iSeries to convert the contents of an IFS file.
