I too suggest that if you can afford the bill then it's a good idea to let 
IBM do this.

Failing that, you might try the following steps (at your own risk).
GO SAVE 
page down
21. Entire system
STRASPBAL TYPE(*ENDALC) UNIT(##)
STRASPBAL TYPE(*MOVDTA) TIMLMT(*NOMAX)
Periodically do:
DSPLOG PERIOD((YourStartTime YourDate)) MSGID(CPI1470 CPI1472 CPI1473 
CPI1474 CPI1475 CPI1476 CPI1477 CPI1478)
And wait until that finishes.
That will move "most" of the data off while your system is still active 
and make your physical downtime shorter.
Then you can IPL play with the DST stuff.

By the way, we did this STRASPBAL to remove and readd some drives on our 
i5-570 just this last weekend.  However we did not physically remove them.

taking out one Harddisk






Hi,
I have to take out one hardisk from one As/400 and put to the another one. 
Of coruse first i have to set up manual IPL, disactivate 1 harddisk....so 
then system will transfer all data from disk disk to another three. But 
how to now fisically which disk is disactivated if all 4 are the same type 
to do not "unscrew" the good -activate one ???
