I don't know what release of the OS you're at nor what model AS/400 you
have, but there should be info in service tools (STRSST) to show you the
frame (cabinet/chassis) and slot number for each drive in the system.
Since you have only 4 drives, I'll assume you don't have multiple frames
so your frame ID will be 1.

Recent systems (7xx/8xx/520/550/570, possibly older ones as well) have
an LED for each drive. Again in SST you can do the drive removal and it
will blink the LED over the drive in question, making your selection
obvious.

There's good info about the hardware layout in the system builder (not
the system handbook) and info about drive replacement & rebuilding in
the backup & recovery guide and any hardware service manuals that cam
with your system.

I would suggest you get IBM to do the replacement for you if you can
spare the expense. If IBM service is too expensive in your area, there
may be third party companies that offer equivalent support for less.

I also strongly suggest you ensure you have a recent full system save
(GO SAVE option 21) in case something does go wrong.

harddisk....so then system will transfer all data from disk disk to

all 4 are the same type to do not "unscrew" the good -activate one ???
Thanks for all answers
