Codd never implied that you could only access data through the query
language, he merely insisted that everything required for database
management be done through the language.  He in fact never expressly
mentioned SQL, even though that's the de facto standard.  Rule 12 states
that you cannot subvert the rules of the database, but as you've already
pointed out in an earlier message, even DBU is subject to the rules of
the database, so DB2/400 enforces Rule 12.
