There is i5/OS  which is V5R3 and after OS400.
There is the new models (520, 590) that require V5R3 or after.
you can run i5/OS on models prior to the 520, 590) but in my mind
it really is a hardware designation. The previous term iSeries
pertained to certain models, even when earlier "AS/400" hardware
could run the newer releases of the OS.
As always, the capabilities of partitions, IXS, etc is very "model and OS
version"
dependent.
