Been through that.  There is a way to use the media CD to ipl from but do 
all of your restores, including ptf's, from the tape.  We use fiber 
attached tape drives and did an unload/reload to a partition.

we've got a 3570 too, and that's what we do the system backup with -
the rest is with an ultrium LTO on fiber.

can't use the ultrium for system backup, because you can't ipl from fiber.
