First: sorry about the delay, but posted this the first time from an un-subscribed address.

Thanks Paul.

I will have the customer check into the SIMM/DIMM products and get the
business partner to quote PSF since that now looks required.

Bryan,

I have used the knowledge database for setting up various printers before.

When you did the color overlays it sound form Paul's post that you had
to be using the IPDS and PSF. Is that correct?

Hi Roger,

I checked the IBM Manual "iSeries Printer Device
Programming Version 5 - SC41-5713-06", which is for
OS/400 Release V5R3. The Host Print Transform
limitation list in the manual included the color
printing capabilities used by IPDS printers. Thus host
print transform of *AFPDS data at V5R3 does not yet
appear to support the color printing you have
described in your posting.

In terms of the Simm/Dimm market for adding IPDS
capabilities to HP LaserJet Color Printers, EuroForm
(http://www.euroform.com) has a webex demo of how
their IPDS 100 product would work in an HP 4650.

I believe that MPI Tech (http://www.mpitech.com) also
has color support in their Simm/Dimm product line for
HP LaserJet printers as well.

HTH

Best Regards,

/Paul

subject: HP Color Laser with/without IPDS?

Hello,

I have a customer that is looking at replacing an HP
4100dn printer with an HP 4650dtn in order to add
color printing for both PCs and the iSeries. They are
currently using HPT with the 4100 to print lines,
boxes, bar codes, logos and various font sizes via
*AFPDS. The iSeries is at V5R2, soon to be V5R3. The
speed of their iSeries and network makes this work
quite well without PSF.

What I am trying to confirm is that HPT will be able
to do the lines, boxes and fonts in color or will an
IPDS SIMM and PSF be required? The InfoCenter at best
is unclear on this area. It would be nice if IBM
produced a grid listing all printer DDS keywords (and
each option to them) with columns for SCS, HPT, IPDS,
and PSF and check marks for required or "works with".
I think I read somewhere that the logos (page
segments) can not use color even with IPDS and PSF

due >to the iSeries stored image format.

If an IPDS is required what is the list's
recommendations as the best for the money?

Thanks.

Roger Vicker, CCP
