I recommend to all of my customers to outsource their email to some
nice company.  I use thebook.com.  It's less than $20 a month for
domain hosting, and it always works.

Using the As/400 to receive email just never worked perfectly for me. 
Too many headaches.

Some of my customers have used stalker.  That worked OK.

It's disappointing to hear the SMTP server is still no good on V5R2.
