If we run a ping continuously on one of the local network machines against the other firewall the connection will stay alive but this doesnt really solve our problem since it requires that a computer ping all day and night. I know the updated version of our firewall has ping built in. Check your cisco manual and see if it has ping built in or not. Does your active typing include active data submission?

Try running ping from the command line to your cisco's ip
