Nowadays isn't that like running without having a toilet in your 
enterprise?  Besides, how many people on this list do not have an iSeries 
in their enterprise?

Why would you ever want to set it to *local?  Wouldn't it be better to
add an entry for the machine you want in the enterprise's DNS servers
rather than maintain a HOSTS table on every machine? 

I can see one argument that goes "the time to lookup locally before a
remote lookup is sooooo small, that it's worth it, just in case you want
to override something in HOSTS" but I've see more problems causes by
incorrect or outdated entries in a HOSTS table (iSeries and non-iSeries)
that I just don't think it's worth it.
