Anyone that doesn't call that a "bang" hasn't had e-mail long enough.
Long time users will recall their email addresses as a "bang path". <G>

Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
(Whatever is said in Latin seems profound.)

Subject: RE: C Language

As an ex-pat from the UK I've been on both sides of the naming
game...here's the various terms I've heard/used/been forced to use to be
understood;

!
  1. Pling
  2. Bang

#
  1. Hash (UK)
  2. Pound (US)

~
  1. Tilde
  2. Squiggle, Squiggly/Sqigglie
  3. The wavy thing

*
  1. Star
  2. Obelisk's friend
  3. And not trying to sound politically incorrect, but from a female
programmer; the 'snowflake'

^
  1. Hat
  2. Power

|
  1. Bar
  2. Pipe

Which to me means that in my earlier years as a C programmer - to maybe
ease the pain - I would some times put some #(1) in my #(1)|(2) and make
my mind ~(3)...

:o)
