We detested our 3570's and had a lot of maintenance issues with them.
They're history here. However other people think I am nuts - they love
their 3570's and have a great history with them.

One thing to consider, is that I've been told that maintenance now
includes support line. So instead of paying extra for support line,
that's included. Now, there are some people that are upset, because they
would never report a problem and don't like paying the extra.

The third parties look at IBM pricing minus x %. It doesn't matter if IBM
artificially inflates maintenance to make the newer models look great (hey
you save on maintenance costs), the third parties still use IBM pricing
minus x% and will jack up their prices at the same time.

Subject
Maintenance on an 820

We have an 820 that we are trying to get a maintenance contract on. IBM is
giving us weird pricing as far as I am concerned. It has a feature code
23A4 installed. IBM gave a quote of $12,000 for 3 year prepaid
maintenance.

We asked if our 3570 tape system was included, IBM said NO. New quote, 3
years prepaid $24,000. Is the 3570 tape drive that bad that it requires
that amount for maintenance.

In generalities, what are you paying for maintenance on an 820 with a 3570
tape drive?

TIA
