I would suspect that rather the MIME file isn't being
created correctly.  I've never had this problem with my
MAILTOOL utility.  

There are cases when larger attachments get split and you
would be able to see the attachment (and some .dat
attachments).  This is easily fixed, but I doubt it's the
issue.
