I don't see however any documentation on what the char(*) looks like.

All they mean is that the Password parameter is now of undefined length. IT IS NOT A POINTER NOR IS IT A STRING. It is simply a character field the length of which is specified in the 5th parameter.

Documentation for the API data types (such as CHAR(*)) does exist. It is found in the Information Centre under Programming->APIs->Concepts->Data types
