I modified the posted code to do the SQL loop and then the native
loop.
9406 model 620 prc grp P20 fc 2179 1024 meg rel V5R2M0.

SQL 6:25, 22% CPU
Native 4:47, 7% CPU

I don't have the machine all to myself to run a dozen of these things
simultaneously.
