Jorge,

You can go from V5R1to V5R3 directly, however, Install the Software
agreement PTFs very early, and you will need to perform a very long IPL
prior to the upgrade to create space for the SLIC. As in the instructions
for the CISC to RISC, Follow the roadmap...... Read and believe the
stuff in the Software install guide! Don't forget the memo to users
either. Also, order you're V5R3 cumulative fix package and all of the
groups plenty early.

The whole process to upgrade on a 300cpw box with moderately tight disk
(80%) took about 7 hours start to finish. This DID NOT include the pre-req
IPL to create space (that was about 90 minutes)

You will need to follow all 9 of the steps in the prepare for upgrade
option on the LICPGM menu. If you try and skip a step, it will cause
trouble down the line.

Also, there is a major bug in the load software process from an image
catalog. Do not attempt to do more than about 6 LPPs at once from an image
catalog. The jobs will all go to lock wait on one row in a database in
QUSRSYS. This is being worked on by Rochester now. Looks like a database
error right now. If they do all get into the deadly embrace that occurs,
the subsystem that run the install jobs will not stop until an IPL via the
white button is done. That's bad. (been there done that)
