I agree there have been many changes. But basic SQL and the various techniques are likely to be fully usable. If you're fairly new to SQL, you have to start somewhere. Conte's "old" book is still helpful. Even stuff from other platforms is useful, because the differences are minor when platform-specific functions are not involved.

Syntactically, everything is the same in later releases. The new stuff is enhancements and things that make life a little easier. I'd say that with a base in V5R1, getting to the new stuff is fairly easy - it is well-documented in the SQL manuals under What's New - probably as well done as anything in this area for the new stuff.

I also have not looked at this book.

Hi Dave!

Yeah, that's what we want to avoid as well.  It does mention "SQL
enhancement set for DB2 with V5R2" at the very bottom of the index, which
may be a Q&D addendum.

Might check it out anyway, they allow returns if not satisfied.
