However, if the subsystem is active then your job will generate a listing of
active jobs, which you don't need. This just slows your job down, especially
if the subsystem has a lot of jobs in it. 

On the ALCOBJ command you can specify a number of seconds to wait. If you
are not able to allocate the subsystem in the allotted time then there is
something wrong (usually a job that won't end normally for some reason).

In addition, by allocating the subsystem to your job, you prevent someone
else from starting it on you, if that is your intention.

        the better way to do this is to run WRKSBSJOB,

        this will throw "CPF1003     Subsystem &1 not active",

         if the subsystem is not active
