Me too (vague recollection of something like that).

I don't, however, see that it would hurt MS to have a PowerPC version
running on "real" hardware. Remember that Windows Datacenter version they
had a couple years ago? Also remember Unisys (?) was building a big machine
(something 8000?) to run Windows Datacenter version? Never did hear any more
about that. My point is that I don't think that MS is expressly tied to
Intel, especially in the high-end market. Didn't they have a Dec Alpha
version, too?

I would think it would be a victory of sorts for MS to have big IBM iron
running their stuff. Maybe it's IBM that doesn't want it.

Perhaps, but I have a vague recollection of WinNT on PowerPC a number of
years ago. I recall that on-going licensing issues, probably along with all
the other MS vs. IBM issues, halted any further development talks. A long
way from Win2003 Server for sure, but I'd expect the rift to still be wide.
I'd particularly expect that MS sees zero advantage in cooperating.
