All,

Our IxS running Win2000 starting giving us problems recently. We're seeing
a "Duplicate Name on Network" error message being sent from our WINS server.

The WINS server is running NT4.

Until recently, all worked fine. The internal Ethernet adapter was setup
and had no DNS or WINS servers identified. Our network admin recently
loaded Windows updates to all our Windows servers including the IxS and now
were having this problem.

I loaded the latest IxS service pack from IBM but that had no effect.

Found a MS KB document (Q198644) that said this error was caused by the 2nd
network adapter (The virtual Ethernet one) not having our WINS servers
identified.

According to the document, once you added the WINS servers to the second
adapter and rebooted, the WINS server would reregister the name as GROUP and
label it multihomed instead of being registered as UNIQUE. However, in the
WINS database it is still listed as UNIQUE and I am still getting the error.

Has anybody else seen this problem?

How is the virtual network adapter defined in your systems?

Thanks,
Charles
