RE: Using Coldfusion and iSeries

As Colin mentioned, MX (6.0 and 6.1) "compiles" the CFM files into java
classes. There is a version of Coldfusion (Enterprise) that will support
running on WAS servers, but the base requirements page says "intel
processor" only

There is a flavor of the Linux version that says it will run on a
zSeries in 31-bit mode, but that "version is available through special
pricing & licensing"

We run a production ASP system that's part ColdFusion based, and I know
that there is a significant "runtime" portion of cold-fusion. I would
bet good money that the runtime makes use of a number of JNI calls,
making it less that totally portable.

On the flip side, I had a conversation w/Dr. Frank last year
specifically about running cold fusion on the iSeries. He made a passing
comment along the lines of "been there, DONE that", but also commented
that there is a _huge_ difference between getting it running in test in
the lab and having it stable enough to be a production-quality system.
He seemed to imply that there were (are) many more pressing requirements
then getting CF to run in the iSeries.

Finally, keep in mind that many older CF applications (Release 5 and
before) have lots of stuff in it that is tied to the windows platform
(COM interop for example) that is nearly impossible to transfer to the
iSeries.

I did a search in the archives and found a couple of old posts that seem
to
imply that Coldfusion Developed Web applications will run on an iSeries.

However, I'm hoping to get some up to date information in response to
this
post.

So is it still possible to run Web Applications developed with
Coldfusion
(v6.1?) on an iSeries?

Is Websphere Application Server required, or can Tomcat handle it?

If WAS is needed, do you need the full version or will Express handle
it?

Lastly, assuming it is possible...any additional info/tips/tricks/links
would be appreciated.
