No member won't be deleted.
Following are my observations
when you try to add/change record using DFU it send message to QSYSOPR
"Member M1 file YY in library XX out of date."
Additional Message info shows "The expiration date for member M1 file XX in
library
YY is 040412. The system date of 040413 exceeds the expiration.

Using runqry you can view the record in Expired member.

To my surprise I found we can Add/Change the record in Expired member using
tools like DBU.

I think u can follow what Vern and Peter suggested.

Cheers
Manoj

whether the member will be deleted completely after
the expiration date and space will be cleared?
basically Iam looking to reduce the space on disk.
