That's hysterical. Reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons when they
couldn't give a trampoline away. But minutes after attaching it to a tree
with a bicycle chain it was gone.

RE: Dumpster diving? (was B20)

I know of a company that after upgrading from a F series to a 5xx series,
had left the old fully populated racks in the parking lot for weeks.
Finally the controller said they had to lock up the equipment so nobody
stole it. Within a week after putting it in a locked outside storage
cage,
it was stolen. The insurance company paid them the depreciated value, 10
x
the resale value. Just think, they did not have to pay to have it hauled
away either. They did wipe all their data and IBM had taken the serial #
chip since they performed an upgrade and retained the serial number.

Bet those thieves were surprised.

Sorry, I guess the toungue in my cheek didn't get into the text..

I have known programmers that "inherited" systems from their employers,
though, here and there..
