Neil,

with the 5494 there is no field 'BB' anymore, I think we have to change back to 5394 units
at that site, since we want to isntall another two links to other sites.

Time to move away from the 436 to a real 400 with S36EE, are there any serious caveats ?

I read about V4R5 not supporting Avdanced S/36 data when migrating.
Shall I install V4R4 first, take a tape and restore the Advanced S/36 data to that release,
and then migrat further ?

Philipp,

Not sure it the 5494 can handle 5294 emulation mode like the 5394 (IBM's iSeries Support web sites seem to have died, YET AGAIN !), but for a 5394:

Field BB specifies the operating mode of the 5394. If Field BB is 0, the controller will be used in 5394 mode (for connections to the iSeries or AS/400e server). Field BB should be set to 1 (5294 emulation mode) for connections to System/36 or System/38.

Re: Advanced S/36 (436) printer error

Neil, to be honest: I would not even know how to do that Customer didn't change anything at the remote site since years. What we did at the central site (where the 436 is sitting), we tried to setup up a 5494 with a setup similar to the other site just to see if it works together with the old controller/line definition. Since these tests, of which all failed after handshaking, the old remote controller refuses to connect to that line anymore. I don't know whats going on here, since we did not change a single byte manually at the 436.

Philipp,

With your 5394 on an Advanced/36 have you tried running the 5394 in 5294 emulation mode?

Advanced S/36 (436) printer error

Hi all,

problem with a remotely attached printer (at a 5394 controller),
we try to release spoolfiles to that printer and get SRC0228 as
an error message and nothing prints out anymore.
The printer looks okay, it is online and varied on, it does "something"
when you vary on, so we think, the connection is "there".
BUT - nothing except SRC0228, and no RTFM around ....

Any help much appreciated, Philipp
