Did you look up file transfer? There's been lots of discussion in this list.

Anyway, if you have iSeries Access and are willing to take the security risk of allowing remote command to the PC, you can use RUNRMTCMD on the iSeries, via a scheduler, to trigger a process on the PC. There are also schedulers of some ilk on PCs.

What to run? Try a data transfer object that can be run with RFROMPCB or RTOPCB - those'd be the commands you put in the RUNRMTCMD, with appropriate parameters.

There are other ways, of course. Using STRPCO and STRPCCMD might work - I don't remember if STRPCO requires an interactive session - probably.

Or a program (or programs) on the PC that uses ODBC and is scheduled by whatever means you have chosen.

Or can you map a network drive to the IFS? The PC app can use that drive letter, maybe. Then the iSeries can check for change date, etc., as needed, and use CPYFRMIMPF and CPYTOIMPF to do what is needed. Much more under control of the iSeries.

I have a task where in I need to automate a file download from a PC to an iSeries at V5.2 and again in the oposite direction as a monthly routine. Only the names of the to and from files will change. I did a cursory search in the archived and on the IBM site but came up empty handed for any examples of how to affect this process. Does anyone know where I can look for examples? Thanks in advance.

Bill.
