it also depends on what's in the java... are they using JDBC, SQLj... are
they taking avantage of the ERDSQL functions... blah... blah... blah...

while there is the traditional tuning, there can also be a lot of DB
tuning...

and the last one that I was involved with, we had to break out the DRDA
protocol books and do some comm traces to prove it was an application
issue...

I would echo the sentiments on memory.. the platform is driven by it and
java applications even more so...

IMO any money spent adding memory to the iSeries is not money wasted...
