We run a complete save every night, no problem. We run a SAVCHGOBJ on the entire system (libs, IFS, etc) every afternoon at 1:30(see note 1). This afternoon backup keeps everybody off 15-20 minutes, including restrict system, backup, and restart QCTL. Since we do every lib, we can't do it to a *SAVF, it must be tape. But hey, it's an improvement. <g> (note 1) The reason for this backup? About a year ago, on a Friday afternoon at 3pm the system died. What died was the backplane and it went so hard (and instantly) that the whole system was hosed. Had to do a scratch install. Saturday I reloaded the entire system from backups which took us to Friday morning status. Sunday morning management came in and we redid everything that had been done on Friday (orders, inventory receipts, A/P, A/R, you name it) and created all invoices to be delivered on Monday. If it had happened any other day of the week, we would not have had the luxury of a weekend to get all this done and still take care of our customers on a timely basis. The only way to reduce that recover time if the system died again was to do additional backup. By 1:30pm, all A/R, all A/P, 75% of inventory receipts, and 50-70% of orders are in, so that time was selected.
