How about this: A short adapter cable (DB9M on one end, DB9F on the other, ribbon cable between. I sever the "low battery" line, and cut in a normally-closed reed relay, held open by a small "wall wart.") If the UPS fails a self-test, the "wall wart" is still powered, holds the relay open, and blocks the low battery warning, but if the power really goes down, the relay falls closed, and any low battery warning gets through. -- James H.
