Hi Steve -

Can I use IP filtering on system A (a 170 with V5R1 in our DMZ) to re-direct
an HTTP
request to System B (an 825 with V5R2 on our internal network) and then send
System B's response back to the original requestor (either internal or
outside of our DMZ)? I'm beginning to wonder . . .

It's sound like you are looking for an HTTP proxy solution. I'm not aware of a standalone proxy for OS/400. Apache 2 includes proxy support but I don't know what level of Apache is available for OS/400 nor if the proxy support is included even Apache 2 is available.

I suggest that you see what you can on IBM sites about Apache and HTTP proxying, and then do some general web searching about it for OS/400, iSeries, AS/400. There is the possibility that a standalone third-party proxy solution exists.

If you do find and implement a proxy solution, it is ESSENTIAL that it be secured properly to only proxy to your internal system. If there are any holes that allow it to be abused in any way, rest assured that someone will find and exploit them.
