That's a better way to do it. I was relying on my experience that "rm" will not delete directories - you need to use "rmdir" for that.

Did you try 'rm ?.?'?  It seems to me it'd be a little safer than 'rm
???'.  It should leave your 'tmp' and 'usr' directories alone.
