Hi David,

the 170 I bought used from IBM came with the QSECOFR password as "PASSWORD"
( go figure )

the system also came with an IBM support phone number: 800-334-9693 option
#1.

If your system is like mine, it came with the OS installed and without
media. So the first thing you want to do is a full system save. ( sign on
as qsecofr, at the command line type "go save", then select option 21. )
Besides the obvious, what the full system save gets you is the ability to do
a complete scratch install that resets the qsecofr and dst passwords.

If you need parts for the 170, like a tape drive, just post. The parts
vendor I used helped me a lot and is highly recommended.

Subject: New install question

I'm coming from the HP 3000 community and have a very basic question, so go
easy on me:-) I purchased a refurbished 170 from IBM and I'm just getting
around to booting it up. I'm stuck on the initial login:-( I use QSECOFR
(User id and password, as suggested) and it states that the profile exists,
but it's an invalid password. Is there another default password I can try?
I also tried QSYSOPR, but no profile exist. Any other suggestions?
