Mark,

>From the symptoms you describe, it sounds as though you have an AS/400 which
has internal batteries. It also sounds as though your UPS is not protecting
you. I would imagine that your UPS is passing power directly to the AS/400
without protection, that you lost power for 6 seconds and during that time
the system ran on its internal batteries, then power was restored and the
UPS is again passing through power to the computer without protection.

What model AS/400 do you have?
Do you have a thin serial cable connecting your UPS with a port on the back
of the system unit? (The lack of any other power-related messages would
indicate that you do not.)

I would suggest having a knowledgeable person examine the functioning of
your UPS at a time when the computer can be powered down briefly. Until
that time, you are probably not protected other than by your internal
batteries.

Regards,
Andy Nolen-Parkhouse
