iSeries Really Will Save You Money
The iSeries (AS/400) may be more expensive to buy than some Unix and
Intel competitors, but it's cheaper to own over the long haul, according
to an IDC study comparing the total cost of ownership (TCO) of running
enterprise applications. Over a 5-year period, it costs 91 percent less
for a small business to run an enterprise app on the iSeries (AS/400)
than on Unix - and 95 percent less than on Intel. Plus the staff in
iSeries (AS/400) shops are typically more productive and spend less time
on support, service, and repair. Even though Unix servers are becoming
more competitive pricewise, the cost of buying a separate database makes
it unlikely that UNIX can match the iSeries (AS/400) in TCO, the report
says.
