Does it possibly have a FTP server? You can find out by executing

ftp xx.xx.xx.xx

where xx.xx.xx.xx is the IP address of the appliance. You DO need a user ID
and password, probably. You don't really to know Unix to user ftp.

If there is a telnet or browser interface, can you add scripts? Is there
the abiblity to schedule things, with at or cron, maybe?

Yes, the appliance has an FTP server and I've been able to FTP into it (from
a 5250 session).  Once there, trying to navigate to the mail archive folder
(using the 'cd' command) has been unsuccessful.  So, I'm in touch with the
manufacturer about that.  Using the web browser gets you to the
administrator functions; other than that, it's locked down.  A rep from the
company that sold us the box says its running Linux; I have no exposure to
linux and very limited exposure to unix so that's why I've wanted a solution
to run from the AS/400.
