There is Option 9 from the "Work with Journals" menu - 

9=Associate receivers with journal  

Help Text - 

9=Associate receivers with journal                                  
    Select this option to associate existing journal receivers with 
    the journal.

You are correct.  As soon as one link in the chain is broken, the chain
ceases to exist.  I suspect that if you restored the missing link, that the
chain would re-heal itself.

In the normal course of operations, our journal receivers are deleted from
the system several days after they have been detached from the journal and
saved to backup.  If such a receiver is restored to the system, is it
"chained" to the journal?  I.e., will it be included in any xxxJRNE
command that uses RCVRNG(*CURCHAIN)?

Obviously, if interceding receivers are missing, an older receiver
restored could not be "chained".  So I imagine that receiver prior to the
oldest one in the chain must be restored.

Advice welcomed.
