I haven't worked with S/36 conversion tools in so long ....

But I just had a thought: what if you wrote a program that went through all of your RPG36 programs looking for the file name in the I spec and output to a new source member all the related entries and you ran your tool against it?

You could create a logical over this new source member indexed by field start position and end position then do a RGZPFM to sort the fields in position order.

Run another program over this that would delete all redundant entries found.

You would then have a source member to look at that would give you all of the different names that may have been used for a given field and be able to detect overlapping fields.
