>From what I have seen, and I could be wrong, US programmers still want to
buy a home, drive a car, and take vacations, switch jobs when they are not
happy, etc.
The target/desired lifestyle in people's minds and the current average
potential income has a significant gap in between, IMHO. To make matters
worse, outside
programmers are willing to give up more to get the job, and get the job
done compared to US programmers.

It's not that I am blaming people, it is the prevailing lifestyle in US
cities that also necessiates such expectations to some extent.

As I said, I could be wrong:>)

Scott,

The US based company is paying $20+ an hour to get their systems
programmed.
Why doesnt the MIS directory of that US company offer that amount to a US
contract programmer?

granted, I am aware of the difference between what a consulting company
charges compared to what they pay their contract workers. The theory of
supply and demand predicts that there will be a lot of programming work
available in the US at low wages. But that is not what is happening, and I
dont understand it.

$20 is what they charge companies. The programmers are only getting a
small
fraction of that!
