The theory is that if you put it into the controlling partition, and you
have a ptf that will fix an ixs issue, and this ptf requires an IPL then
all your partitions are toast. However, putting in your ixs card into
it's dedicated partition may be overkill also. But if may fit your
management strategy. We have put them into the same partition that
controls our ERP, payroll, Notes, etc. So, putting on a IPL ptf there on
a whim ain't going to happen anyway. We probably did that because that
used to be the only partition on this CPU before it was partitioned.

Another thought is that you can then have dasd available for your DB2
applications, and if you need it for the IXS you can snag onto it. So
keep it in the big partition. Transferring dasd between LPAR's is
slightly more complicated, ie, raid sets, etc. So, I guess I could use
that for the business reason to justify our decision. :-)

When building an LPARed system where are people placing the xServer card?

Since this is pretty much a standalone feature does it matter which
partition its placed into? I know it shares DASD (like IFS) space, that
can
be backed up to the iSeries tape device. Any thoughts on placing it in
the
primary managing P0 partition?
