Because I pass the username and password in the ASP connection string, I
don't think it's necessary in this case.
Also, I only left installed the minimum required components for AS/400
connectivity: CA required programs, OLE/ODBC drivers, and the CAE toolkit.
(Less may be required, but I was comfortable with leaving these.) CWBCFG no
longer exists on the server.

      Did you have to use the CWBCFG utility as well?

       I'm simply interested if the need still exists on the newer versions
of CA/400.

ARGH! Rule #1 - always check client service pack levels!

Installing V4R5 CA service pack SF67276 fixed the problem. It updated the
ODBC driver from 7.00.00.00 to 7.00.05.00, among other things.

Sorry for bothering the list before checking out the simple stuff.
