thanks Tony.

The problem turns out to be that the ops console software shipped on the
v5r1 cae cd does not work. it fails on both w95 and w2k. I was able to
download the cae service pack on my w2k pc and the "install DUN" went away.
( problem is, I cant download the service pack onto the pc I need to use as
the ops console )

anyway, I am giving up on ops console and buying a 2720 twinax card from
someone who looks like he has good prices on as400 peripherals - Jon Duke,
aka ebay tennisball30. jduke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Steve,

Do you have SP4 on this W2K box, ops console & W2K don't play nice
together and IBM doesn't have a resolution yet.

Check out this link:

I want to use ops console on a w2k pc to connect to a 170 using the
ops
console cable.

But when I try to start client access/operations console I am prompted
to
install dial up networking on the pc. This PC is running w2k
professional.
Isnt DUN for w95/w98 only?

How do I install DUN on a w2k pc?

( In w2k I created a "connect directly to another computer" network
connection, but that meant nothing to cae ops console. )

-Steve
