If you put your HTTP servers on separate boxes in the DMZ (and you take
your pick, but you might want to consider cheap WinTel or LinTel boxes
running IBM HTTP powered by Apache), you can keep your Websphere/Data box
safely behind the DMZ.

You don't need to run webserver and app server on the same box. I'd
definitely want to keep my app server safe.

I knew that someone would ask for a name on this.

I don't have a name, but it first came up on an IBM
web deployment Web Cast a few years back. In the web
cast, the deployment server was mentioned as any
server that would run Websphere, this included a
Windows solution. The web cast didn't push iSeries
over any other platform.

I also have gotten somewhat of the response with
business partners and with a couple of IBM'ers at a
some web-enablement Seminars. Not that they are
advocating Microsoft over IBM, but that I need
something to separate the Data from the logic. And
their response was somewhat Vendor Neutral on what
server runs Websphere.

In all accounts, I am left with the impression that if
I run Websphere on the same box as my data, than I'm
possibly setting myself up for future security
problems.
