The limit should be 70 days if memory serves -- and you should have seen
annoying messages in QSYSOPR. This license checking has been there for a
couple of releases now.

I thought 04 was the lamp test. At any rate try changing the IPL source to
'D' on the front panel, and then IPL, that should IPL from CD. I don't know
however if that will allow you to reinstall and avoid the 70-day window.
Part of me says yes it will, afterall not too many people are willing to
scratch install their machines every 70 days, and part of me says it won't
since that would avoid the whole licensing check. At worst you should be
able to recover from the tape backup of V5R1 -- you do have a backup, no?

Subject: v5r2 license expiration

we pretty much innocently installed v5r2 on both the test and production
system at an account of mine. Turns out that v5r2 is paid for on the
production system, but due to a lot of indecision it is not paid for on the
test system.

now 45 or so days later, the test system displays a screeen saying to enter
the license key or be happy with a system that does not ipl.

Is this new to v5r2? Does v5r1 have such a drop dead expiration date?

I've have tried a little bit to set the front panel to "04=ipl from cd" to
reinstall either v5r1 or v5r2, but I cant up arrow/down arrow to 04.

During a manual ipl, the panel that asks if you want to continue the ipl or
start dst does display. Can dst be used to clear the disk and do another
install?

thanks,

Steve
