The suggestions to add DSPPGMREF output are good as far as they can go. Unfortunately, you won't get a complete repository. There are issues about overrides and variable names for files that will make it likely that you CANnot fulfill the requirements.

Nonetheless, if a file is referenced, this command will tell you its usage - input, output, or both. There is no way to identify the output fields that are actually used, without looking at source.

To get a more complete solution, I suggest that you go to www.asc-iseries.com and look at their Abstract cross-referencing tool. I don't know the price - but it's a tool your company can use for years. It'll help you in assessing the impact of changes in source, it'll help create objects dependent on other objects that have changed, etc.

You can get a free trial - a company rep will contact you, of course (I don't work for them, BTW), but you could try it out on this project and see what you get.

Since the program name is not part of the information provided by DSPFFD, does anyone have any suggestions on an easy was to create another file to join to the original DSPFFD file? This file should contain the program name and the output fields to join to the original DSPFFD file.
