if the data is that sensitive then you need fire. Not just crushing, but
hot fire too.

there is no reliable way to destroy data excepting fire.

Of course that is radical but if the requirement is to purge and be sure
then you need fire. Running over the drives with a forklift isn't enough

The leasing company will understand but it'd be best to discuss it with
them
first. There will no doubt be a charge.

Subject: Erasing data from a system

There is an upcoming task to purge all data off DASD for a system that
is going off lease and being returned. Of course deleting the data (or as
it should relly be termed, marking it as deleted) is not robust enough.
We need to physically destroy bits, or damage them beyond recoverability.

Some years ago, I remember a process (it may have been on VM) that
did this very task rather quickly (less than an hour, and more like
20 minutes if I remember correctly). I seem to remember something about
striping, but I can only barely remember having a memory.

TIA,

Dan Rasch - because if the human species concentrated on the really
important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles!
IBM Certified twice....... but still a couple PTFs away from Nirvana.
