While at my last shop they were in the 'blue print' phase of implementing SAP
and they were getting rid of the iSeries in favor of Sun boxes. Needless to
say the 400 programmers weren't real happy. A few of them are pretty
knowledgeable about the AS400 and it's history. I saw a few articles that
showed that SAP can flourish on the iSeries. Another told the story that SAP
originally wanted to team up with IBM and the AS400 specifically. From what I
read, IBM dragged their feet and SAP needed to move on and did.

Are there any successful SAP imlementations on iSeries? My one and only
brush with SAP was also a failed implementation - the iSeries application
and database servers were replaces with Compaq / Windows - and I was made
redundant.

<snip>
I heard SAP almost put Owens Corning out of business when they did their
implementation. Don't know any details really, but when I was leaving my
former job that was an OC competitor and moving to SAP, that was one of the
concerns.

Pretty damn poor management, that would allow this to happen. The
other thing about some of these catastrophic
system failures, the result is something like viruses, the
management is so embarassed they hush up the whole
        thing.
