You are putting an SQL select statement in your QRYSLT parameter.

Sorta on the lines of mixing your metaphores.  "it's just gravy on the
cake"

OPNQRYF has it's own syntax for record selection (much like the CPYF select
syntax) and also doesn't allow direct substringing of file variables.  for
this, you have to use *MAPFLD.

unless you really HAVE to use OPNQRYF, i won't bore you by continueing -
just use your favorite flavor of SQL to an outfile.
