Hello, John; may i pose you a question about http://www.ScoreBook.com
?
Which type of /400 is it based on ?

It runs on a model 270 processor feature #2252 (22A8) with about 12 other websites and 12 active programmers. There is a T1 downstream from the site.

Our ad agency says that ScoreBook.com served 52,959 dynamic page views yesterday. I don't have page view statistics for the other 11 sites.

Do you use CGI / RPG ? Response times are very fast, i notice.

The site was developed using LANSA for the Web. We have chosen to generate CGI/RPG code. LANSA gives very good performance in web-based applications. 98% of our page views are dynamically generated using LANSA.

The first page load is a bit slow, because the masthead graphics are not yet in the cache. After that, it performs well ... to date, response time seems to be fairly constant, regardless of the load. Thank goodness for the scalability of the AS/400!

When you drill down into the site (to view leagues, teams, and their statistics), there is a lot of processing going on. We also allow the upload of picture and logo graphics. Soon, we will open the site to uploading player pictures, as well.

Have you tried some other solutions (Websphere, java, ????) before choosing
LANSA ?

In my "day job", my staff evaluated about 8 iSeries web technologies before choosing LANSA. I must confess that my "day job" is with a company that develops web applications mainly using LANSA.

We chose LANSA for several reasons:
- it supports multiple client environments (ScoreBook has a terminal-based back-end administrative system)
- it can be deployed on multiple server types
- it is multi-lingual from the ground up
- it was an easy transition for our programmers (RPG & Visual Basic)

If we were going to build the site from scratch today, we would still choose LANSA.

Many thanks.
