But... does Adobe automatically email (with MAILTOOL), FTP, and save to the
IFS? Even in a batch program? This is where it shines in my eyes. We save
reports to PDF, then FTP them to another server for distribution. We have
other reports that get emailed, etc. Sure saves on printing costs. Think of
it this way, my set of programs are probably saving my company 20,000 sheets
of paper a month (assuming no one is printing it out)... and that does take
in account for postage and printer costs. It you make full use of it, the
ROI is very quick.

Sure, Acrobat has more features, but it is mostly a manual process. I don't
have to touch the 4,000 reports that are sent. That is done for me with VERY
little additional programming.

$230? For ONE! utility! That's insane! You can buy the entire Adobe
Acrobat software suite, which comes with a free SDK so that you can write
your own code, AND you have access to all the other tools that are part of
Adobe, for $249.

I fail to see how it's cheaper to buy Brad's tool (sorry Brad...but you
could lower the price of your software) when with just a little bit of
effort you could roll your own.

Beyond that, there are the Java API's to create PDF files which are
ridicuosly simple to use. Joe Pluta and Don Denoncourt wrote a utility many
moons ago to demonstrate this and I think Joe may still have it available on
his website.

$230 for one utility. Hmm...maybe I should stop writing free articles about
how to build your own software and just start charging people for it
too....:-)
