The problems go both ways. I've heard of material being tied up by US customs on the way to conferences there too.


There are of course lots of alternatives to transporting stuff across the border. Such as contracting with a local printer or copier service for the handouts. Or leaving your big computers at home and connecting to them over the internet. Or leasing equipment locally. Don't forget that the exchange rate still favors visitors to Canada.

(Or just work with a reputable shipper that knows all the appropriate rules and regs on both sides of the border.)

On either side, the major concern is that you'll bring in some equipment for a conference, thus being excempt from duties, and then sell the equipment locally without paying the applicable duties.
